From SAD to RAD
People ask me why are they fat.
And of course I have my own opinions about this subject based on how my body responded to a good raw lifestyle.
And it is probably way too difficult to explain here what I REALLY think about the SAD lifestyle (Standard American Diet) – I mean even its moniker gives away the whole idea behind it…….sad. So sad! LOL
But what I think (in a raw little nutshell) is that people are hungry. So they eat more and more to become fulfilled. And so we have now made ourselves and our children visually used to BIG, GIANT portions of cooked food to full us up-and if it is not BIG, we feel cheated. But is filling up your body the same as nourishing it?
You see, I think we are hungry because we are mal-nourished. Hard to believe with us being a “civilized” country and all-and a prosperous one at that!
But I think that what we have been gradually doing to our food has made it less and less nourishing to the body and therefore the body is calling out for more and more food to get what it needs.
Since I went raw, I have given up that 11am and 4pm clock check; starving myself until it is time for lunch or dinner. I no longer wait for the food cart to come along. I do not have to be the first on line to eat and I do not gorge on the bread on the table because I am hungry and cannot wait to be served to eat.
I have FREEDOM!
My stomach does not call the shots anymore. And my hips no longer bear the brunt of the SAD! But why, you may ask, is this happening? Why is it that the food we eat no longer fulfills our body’s needs?
Well, I think that the biggest problem we are facing is that we hardly eat anything raw anymore. Canned, Jarred, Pasteurized. Radiated, GMO’d and Chemicalized to last on the shelf of the store and in our pantry until we are ready to use it has probably destroyed any enzymes or vitamin and mineral bonds in the food.
What does this mean to our food? Why are vitamins and minerals so important? Well basically, they are the building blocks of everything in the body. When we are getting hunger pangs, it is just the body calling out for the nutrition it needs to keep the body vibrant and in good working order. Without these vitamins and minerals, our bodies will not be able to heal itself or keep its integrity-in other words, keep the bounce in our step.
One function of enzymes is digestion, and if you are not getting these enzymes in your food, you are going to have to build them from “somewhere” to digest the cooked food you are eating. (raw food has enzymes and cooked food may not have ANY!). Where exactly do you think the building blocks for those enzymes are coming from to digest food that has no enzymes? You guessed it, from your body…..
So you see, to me- taking out our body’s building blocks to make enzymes to digest food that should already have enzymes in it –and should be digesting to release and put those building blocks INTO our body…..is well, crazy. No?
Shouldn’t the food we eat fulfill the needs of the body to rebuild itself and heal itself and keep itself in good running order? I mean that is the point of eating isn’t it?
And then to take it one step further, if we are getting symptoms that our body is not getting what it needs to run smoothly, shouldn’t nourishing food help it out? The key here is the word NOURISHING. I do not find cooked food nourishing. And I have changed my life for the last 17 years to reflect this belief.
I am not any different than you are. I love food, I travel a lot, I am “busy”.
But I am not too busy to get myself and my family good food-or to listen to my body “speaking to me.”
I have reversed so many health issues just in the first few days of eating raw that I cannot even remember what it felt like to be miserable. All I did is to substitute an “R” for an “S”- I went from a SAD lifestyle to a RAD(Raw American Diet) lifestyle and I have never looked back-and I have never looked so good either! (or so I am told- LOL!)
