So here I am in Moscow. I have seen so much of Russia lately that I feel almost at home here. Not quite, but almost.
St Petersburg’s felt a little more laid back and relaxed. The traffic was bad, but not horrible. And there was lots of water and rivers and canals.
I found a church I liked and a café I’d like to go to and even a shop I liked to look around in-browse if you will-on the Prospect.
It was called Babooshka (for butterfly. We know how I love Butterflies!! And it is not to be confused with babashuka which means Grandma or visa versa!)
As you can see, my Russian is no better. That is a bummer especially for someone who picks up Latin based languages so easily. I mean I was speaking Italian in a matter of days-maybe a week.
With Russian I have been humbled. Slavic-go figure! The words go in one ear and out the other. And I am frustrated as I am surrounded by Russian speaking people (obviously as I am in Russia!) and I want to know what they are saying…..and I want to talk.
Anyway, Moscow is a bit more (I hate to say it but here it comes…….) upscale. The restaurants are more expensive and international. The shops are standalone designer shops like: Ferre, Versace, Dior, Chanel. They also have Malls. There is one mall on the side of Red Square along with an ice skating rink to boot!
Lenin must be in shock!
Yes, Moscow is the New York of Russia-even the traffic is worthy of NYC!
While I am here, I want to go see the treasures again. The Czar’s Royal Jewels. I went once, a while ago, but I’d like to go again. I remember they had some royal fashions in the museum-the men’s heels were so high!! LOL
And their feel so tiny…..
And they were not tall.
I would have been a giant in that time.
Glad I’m not in that time, I am a giant enough here and I’m not even a basketball player…..
I’ll keep you updated with my travels. And I will send pics!
Hi to you all at home. Happy Thanksgiving coming up……
Love from Russia!
